and thank you for attending the accommodations required to be a test administrator for any of the spring assessments that we have coming up the objective of this training is to familiarize Educators with the features and supports that make Star accessible to all students all of this information on this PowerPoint including the general information pertaining to the updated accommodation policy as well as additional resources about accessibility on Star can be accessed through the following link this first link is going to link you to the t e a website on here you can see the accessibility features and all the density the next link is going to be the Educator's guide this is going to contain all the information that we're going to be going over at the end of a PowerPoint and more more detail more in depth what are accessibility features during State assessments based on their name in general these procedures and materials are available to any student who regularly benefits in mind on any state assessment should have practice and experience using the features during classroom instruction there should also be some indication or evident your benefits for example English teachers that might require one of theirs highlighter it does not mean every single one of their student needs to have a highlighter on its only students that would actually benefit from using that highlight accessibility features listed yes any student can have accessibility features but again there has to be some sort of documented evidence acceptability eating scratch paper highlighters even small group and individual testing are now considered accessibility features providing students with accessibility features if you do have any suit that routinely use and do benefit from any of these features it is your responsibility to come and inform us test coordinators and a timely matter and also make sure you bring in the documented evidence what are designated support designated supports include accommodations that may be available to students who meet eligibility criteria the decision should be based on the eligibility Criterion and aimed at addressing the struggle in a specific area even after in 10 construction and Remediation the appropriate team of people at the campus level such as lpac arde 504 RTI determine students eligibility as indicated in each policy document routine accommodations or designated support you as if I'm ite means a student has used to support often enough during the classroom instruction and testing that he or she is able to use it independently that was listed in the previous lives of the first designated support which is the most what we'd consider one important as needed supported a lot of information attached to this is oral signed overview of the oral Administration inside you'll see the subject area so if you're administrating an algebra 1 Test biology test for the u.s. history book there on the first row you have your reading portion for the English 1 and 2 assessments and then you have your writing for the English 1 and 2 assessment notice that the tests are broken up into two sections you have your paper test and your online test so if you look under paper test you'll see if you're a test administrator or what may be read aloud for the online test students will be TNT of text-to-speech so the text-to-speech will read the questions and embedded support it will read the revising passages revising questions and abetted supports for the writing section for the English assessment best administrator even though you're in an online classroom you may be required to read some resources for the student and that consists of your reference materials and designated supports and so what does that mean exactly what test you can go back and reread questions and answer choices if the students requested you have to be familiar with content specific terms and symbols associated with the subject area assessment this will ensure that the assessment is administered accurately also you must also try to keep your voice inflection neutral however word are in bold or italicize or printed entirely in capital letters must be emphasized oral Administration questions and answers which means read all for this type of oral Administration. questions must be read aloud in the order they are presented so far at request it does not have to be in order but for oral all you have to read everything in the order it is preventing for the English you have to read the selection first so you are not allowed to read the passages the reading passages they read the passages on their own and when they're ready you read aloud each test question in the order prevented Yumi read aloud any words phrases or sentences and a test questions and answer choices as many times as needed you can go back and reread it again you have to be to know the content specific terms and symbols that are associated with subject area and again also to keep your voice inflection neutral but you can't emphasize word that are bold italic size for printed in all cap continuing on with oral all in regards to the algebra biology and history assessment being read aloud you can read the entire test because there are no reading selections so for those three subject areas reading questions now for the English 1 and 2 again for the reading selection you can only read questions reading selection may never be read aloud to a student now on the writing no part of the editing section of a writing assessment can be read aloud unless otherwise specified by tea however you can read the writing prompt WordReference for an oral Administration this includes again like maybe a dictionary entry as well as the state's Applied Mathematics and Science reference material support may be read aloud to students that are also eligible and this could mean any supplemental aids if they have any oral Administration for student who is taking an online assessment and what this tool does and it allows the student to independently select and change his or her level of reading support during the test Administration and answer choices throughout the test after this presentation we are require that you do it online testing tutorial and this tutorial you'll be able to hear how the text-to-speech function works if you are assigned to be a test administrator in an oral Administration group there are strict reading guidelines for Kenny to each subject area they can be accessed in the link below this link will take you to the manual the manual is divided up by subject you will find a table of contents for each subject each subject has strict guidelines how to read content specific term for instance in math there are abbreviations graphic symbols equations expressions and so on if you do see a graph you are allowed to read the labels and the words or numbers provided on the graph interpret them clock faces weather digital or analog may not be read but you can read the labels below them another example would be in US history if you have US Constitution you can read us Constitution you're not allowed to say United States Constitution so for Content specific information you may refer to this manual for Algebra 1 is Pages 6 through 12 biology 15 through 19 u.s. history 23 for an English 1 and 2 Pages 13 through 14 this just made it standard print size I'm again anyone can qualify for the large print designated support I need to be using it routinely and effectively at least one of the following criteria a has a visual impairment is not able to accurately track letter to letter word to word or Line to Line C has a physical disability which necessitates use of large print materials testing online into their online test now keep in mind that this designated support is only available for the English 1 and 2 writing portion only examples of spelling assistants are there for you to go through I'm but again only for the written composition portion of the English 1 and 2 EOC students that qualify for spelling assistance would be students that are receiving special ed or 504 services or let students that are also 504 in special ed the eligibility criteria they must routinely and effectively uses support during instruction and testing and they have to have a disability so severe that they cannot apply basic spelling rules or word patterns to written responses Braille or refreshable Braille is available only in STAAR testing this doesn't need support provides Braille test materials or screen reader support for refreshable Braille ways to a student with a visual impairment who is unable to access printed test materials disaccommodation we don't see quite often but it is available to students who use or read using rail and again they must routinely use a support during construction and testing individualized structured reminders is a designated support keep in mind this is often confused with reminders to stay on task which is an accessibility feature for individualized structure reminders it's a little bit more specific this is where a test administrator administrator can provide individual eye structure reminders for students to stay on task during State Testing acquired or allowed for any other student this includes but is not limited to and I'll just read some of the examples using paper clips or adhesive note to divide test in two sections giving them restructure reminders that are already behavioral plans maybe using index cards that have handwritten or color coded reminders to continue working who qualifies for individualized structured reminders could qualify or receiving special letter Section 504 Services let students that are special letter 504 and any other students that are not identified as 504 respect as long as they are routinely effectively using the support during instruction and testing could qualify for this designated support manipulating test materials again is available to Star and help us testing this support test administrator to physically manipulate test materials online tools but you could be helping a turn pages test booklet operating technology per-student directions such as moving the mouse navigating the pages may be zooming in and out highlighting for pursuing it directions or positioning Maddox manipulative person students who qualify for manipulating test materials are students at our students receiving Section 504 sped Services a student that is left with a disability or other students not a den I'm the student again must be using this accommodation routinely and effectively during inspection and testing the next support is math manipulative this is available only for the algebra 1 Test this support offers a concrete objects or pictures to students to move or touch in order to visualize abstract concept and there's a list of examples provided below who qualifies any student that routinely and independently and effectively uses a support during construction and testing keep in mind accessibility features and designated supports are intended to make Star accessible to students for a variety of reasons a student may take Star online for one subject and on paper for another depending on the appropriateness and or accessibility there are also reports that require tea approval we don't see very often however they are available accommodation request form to and the request has to be approved by t e of course before student uses the designated support a list of the approved supports it has fallen complex transcribing extra day mathematics scribe or other in order to really understand how the student view this online STAAR EOC exam we want everyone to do the tutorial the online tutorial so you can have a better understanding of how it works so we're asking that you go to your desktop and click on The Star online icon there you will click on tutorials you'll select the OC and choose any of the subjects that you wish to view if you'd like under the test you can see how would test would look with all the support that are available or you can see how an online test would look to students that have just online testing without support so you can choose what you'd like to see and at the bottom you can watch the videos that are so so and that way you'll have a better understanding of how things look and what is and what is not available to the students
