Students from R. Cantu Jr. High and Mission Jr. High were part of the GEAR UP AYD Summer program in the Summer of 2012. The program gave students the opportunity to explore better ways to solve problems, learn new things and work collaboratively with their peers. The students ended their 12 day program with a visit to the UTPA Coastal Studies Lab at South Padre Island and the South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center where they were able to dissect a starfish and explore different types of sea creatures and birds from our area.
