This craft is perfect for everyone who has been experiencing the missing sock phenomena (which is everyone really) as now you know what you can do with all the odd socks.

• 1 white sock
• 1 sock in color for the hat
• rice
• rubber bands (or thread)
• colourful buttons
• ribbons
• glue gun
• markers or paint
• orange pom poms

The first few pictures show a black sock – you need to use a white one – the black sock is from another sock craft tutorial we have – the procedure is the same.

Start by filling your white sock with rice. You will need a hefty amount (we were quite surprised to see how much rice can go into one sock).

Once you are happy with the amount (and size) of your sock snowman tie the top with the rubber band.

Take another rubber band and place in the middle – more to the upper side – of the rice filled sock to form the head shape.

Now glue the buttons to the bottom side by using a glue gun (glue dots do a fairly good job too).

Draw the mouth and eyes with a black marker or with black paint.

We also added pink cheeks (Crayola washable paints were great for the job). We made the nose out of two orange pom poms – turned out amazing.

Add a ribbon for the scarf – we fount that glue dots and glue gun work best for ribbons, while other glues kind of fail miserably. You can cut off excess white sock (or you can tuck it in the hat we will be making next).

Cut the colored  sock (we cut the foot part, without heel). Roll it a bit and place it on the head of your snowman. You can leave it as it is or you can secure it with some glue.

This sock snowman is ready to rock.

Easy Diy Tin Can Pumpkins

Gather your tin cans, clean the sticky gunk from the labels off the cans
 

Next use a small nail and poke a hole in the bottom center portion of each can then use a screwdriver to enlarge the holes just large enough for your twigs to fit into.

Paint your cans different shades of orange or whatever color you choose.

Once dry distress your cans using sandpaper to add a little bit of rustic charm to your tin can pumpkins.

After that I added my favorite antiquing medium.

Now hot glue your Twigs into the holes. I glued mine from the inside of the tin cans.

Next I added my wire for the tendril’s. The wire had some kind of material over it that made it resemble wood, not sure of the name but I found it at Michaels. You could just use regular wire and add a patina to it, like I did on my wood pumpkins.

Using a pencil a added the curls in the tendril’s. Then I hot glued some leaves that I had cut off of some flower sprigs.

I finished off my Easy Diy Tin Can Pumpkins by tying some strands of raffia around the cans. I love how they turned out, I think their adorable!

These welcome mats are super easy to DIY and personalize with your own creative design (while saving money) and I’ll show you how in this post. You’ll need a Cricut Explore or Silhouette cutting machine to make this project. Just upload the SVG or PNG in the program you use (I use Cricut Design Space), size, cut, and apply!

If you don’t have a cutting machine, you can use an alphabet stencil found at your local craft store to create a similar design.

This doormat was so easy to make, I ordered 5 additional plain doormats to make for other holidays. Our new house in Florida has 6 exterior doors… that’s a lot of doors for a 1600 square foot house, right? So I figured that I need a doormat for all 6 doors, hehe.

HOW TO MAKE THE FALL WELCOME DOOR MAT WITH FREE SVG FILE:

SUPPLIES:

• Cricut Explore/Silhouette cutting machine
• SVG file (get it free below or design your own)
• Heavy Cardstock (any color – this will be your stencil)
• Plain Doormat (these are a reader favorite!)
• Fabric Paint (this paint is the best for this project)
• Stencil brush
• Painters Tape
• Gloves (optional)
• Black and White Buffalo Plaid Rug (optional – if you want to create the layered look like my photos)

DIRECTIONS:

1. Gather supplies. You will need a plain doormat (I used this one which shipped to me in 2 days for free!), fabric paint (this type of paint is waterproof to guard against rain, etc), stencil brushes (you can find a pack of these at your local craft store – I wash mine out after every use to extend the life), painters tape (you can find it at your local craft or hardware store), and a stencil ( I show you how to make a stencil using the free SVG file and a Cricut machine below). 
   
2. Download the SVG file and upload to Cricut Design Space. Do you need help uploading a file to Cricut, let me know in the comments or send me a message, I’d love to help!
3. Size the image depending on the size of your doormat. If you purchase the doormat I mention above, my image was sized 19.5″ x 9.7″.
   
4. Cut and weed the image (remove the negative part of the cut image, in this case, you will remove the letters inside). I used heavy cardstock to create my stencil. You could use stencil material if you plan to use it again. I throw away the cardstock but you might be able to get another use out of it, depending on the wetness from the paint.
5. Arrange the image on the doormat using painters tape to secure. I had to carefully place the center for the “p’s” the “r” and the “k” and put a small piece of painters tape behind each to secure to the mat. You will need to be very careful when applying paint around those areas. 
   
6. Use paint and stencil brush to paint inside the image. Wear gloves because you will need to use your fingers to hold down some sides! I use these gloves for every project around the house (so I don’t mess up my nails) and the hubby uses them for big house project too.
7. Peel off the vinyl stencil right away to reveal the finished project. You don’t want to leave the stencil on there for very long otherwise the cardstock might stick to the mat. You can fill in any spots with a black sharpie or more paint with a small brush.
   
8. Let dry for 24-48 hours before placing outside (in case it rains – fabric paint needs time to dry completely before becoming waterproof).

Learning how to use your Cricut is really easy and fun once you get the hang of it. I love using Cricut Design Space print then cut features. If you don’t have a Cricut Access Membership, I highly recommend it. I’ve had a Cricut Access Membership for years and it’s definitely worth the cost for all the benefits!

It’s that time of year, my friends! Cool weather, changing colors, fall parties and flickering luminaries. I know I’m not the only one who swoons over those lanterns from Pottery Barn, but who says soft autumn light has to cost a fortune? For less than five dollars, you can create your own seasonal luminary as a fall craft. They bring coziness to late night chats on the porch, dim light after dinner and festivity for the all-important trick or treat. All you need are a few simple household items, and if you like color, a can of spray paint!

I really enjoy making luminaries. Here is one I did for our piano top at Christmastime a few years ago. I punched out the snowflake design on an antique tin I found at a flea market. Each December, we light the candle inside and enjoy its soft light in our living room. We keep it going until the last snowflake falls. There are so many possibilities! Creating  a luminary is certainly not an original idea, but oh how simple and fun they are to make!

Ready to make an autumn luminary with me as an easy fall craft?

Here is what you will need. A empty tin can, a straight nail, a copy of your desired shape on a heavy paper,  a hammer, a tea light and if you don’t prefer the color of aluminum, you’ll also need a can of spray paint. Since this is a fall themed luminary, I’ve purchased a creamy orange hue from the local home store.

Before you can begin punching our design onto the tin can, make sure to freeze some water inside! If you don’t do this, your hammer will dent the tin every time it punches a hole. I like things that look like they have a  history, but a dented up can is not really what I had in mind  To freeze water inside, pour water 3/4 full to the top of the can and place it in your freezer. In a few hours, it will be ready!

While waiting for the water to freeze, outline your shape with little dots using a pen or marker. These dots will provide the framework for our hammer to punch holes. Be sure to make your dots close together. If they are too far apart, it will be more difficult for the image to appear.

When the water in your tin is frozen and ready, center the shape on the can using tape, putty or my daughter’s suggestion…gum! I think it’s easiest to do this between my knees. I point the nail atop each dot and give a tap or two with the hammer. Don’t worry if the hole appears outside of your dot or if some holes end up larger than others. That is the beauty of art!

When you are satisfied with having hammered most or all of your dots, remove the paper and add additional punches if needed to create fullness to the shape. For this one, I added some length to my stem and a few missed punches. When satisfied, I thawed out the ice and let it dry.

Now you are ready to spray paint your tin! One good coat is probably all you will need.
And isn’t this a great way to use one of those Amazon boxes? After mine dried, I added a little orange twill and twine. Hey, wouldn’t that make a good country singing duo? Introducing …Twill and Twine!
